Drive, cycle or walk through the unspoiled Durham Dales, North Pennines National Park, Derwent Valley or Weardale and experience some of the highest and finest scenery in England. The North Pennines AONB was designated Great Britain’s first European Geopark for its geology, flora and fauna.


If you prefer shopping, The Metro Center, One of Europe's largest indoor shopping center and  Eldon Square in Newcastle are nearby.



Hadrian's Wall, the most important monument built by the Romans in Britain, is a short drive away.

Visit Roman Vindolanda and Housesteads Roman Fort. The central area of the wall and museum have been upgraded for visitors.


Spend a day at  Beamish, a former European Museum of the Year, which recreates life in the North of England in the early 1800 and 1900s includes a drift mine, railway station, colliery and a town. Visit Washington Old Hall, the ancestral home of America's first President.


The Millennium Bridge crosses The Tyne and was designed by Wilkinson Eyre Architects and engineered by Gifford, the bridge takes its place at the end of a line of distinguished bridges across the River Tyne, including the Tyne Bridge and Robert Stephenson's High Level Bridge.

Two World Heritage Sites, The magnificent Norman Durham Cathedral  where you can view the treasures of St Cuthbert, inscribed together with the Castle as one of Britain's first World Heritage Sites.
